Guidelines for Philippine's power generation mix policy being readied
The policy is coming soon.
In the Philippines, it has been noted that the country's power generation mix policy is coming soon.
According to a research note from Maybank Kim Eng, Energy Undersecretary Zenaida Monsada said this during the roundtable discussion organized by the ADR Institute for Strategic and International Studies.
She said the guidelines were being readied for the circular about power generation mix that will give renewable energy at least 30% share in the country's installed capacity.
Here's more from Maybank Kim Eng:
She noted that the generation mix will be 30% coal, 30% natural gas and 30% renewable energy but the 30% share of natural gas was still being studied given the lifespan of the Malampaya gas field, which is until 2024.
Imported liquefied natural gas could play a role once the Malampaya gas in northwest Palawan became depleted.
She added that the said circular would be used as a guide for the generation mix, whether installed capacity or gigawatt-hours produced by the power plants.
