Banpu eyes shipping 2 million tonnes of coal to Vietnam in 2019
The country is the 10th largest destination of its coal exports.
Thailand’s Banpu eyes shipping 2 million tonnes of coal to Vietnam buyers in 2019, the Bangkok Post reports. According to Banpu CEO Somruedee Chaimongkol, Vietnam ranks 10th in Banpu’s coal exports and has high potential due to rising demand in power consumption.
This is in line with Vietnam’s power development plan as well as the expectation that consumption will double to 130GW by 2030. In 2018, Banpu exported 1.3 million tonnes of coal to Vietnam.
Banpu also established an office in Ho Chi Minh City to administer its coal trade and business presence. “This office in Vietnam is also in response to Banpu’s plan to develop its wind farm projects and study the feasibility for solar farm projects in the near future, including other fuels to generate power,” Chaimongkol told the publication.
