SEDA Malaysia has a new Chairman
Took over on September 1.
Former Sabah deputy chief minister Datuk Dr Yee Moh Chai was appointed chairman of the Sustainable Energy Development Authority Malaysia (SEDA Malaysia).
Energy, Green Technology and Water Minister Datuk Seri Dr Maximus Johnity Ongkili said Yee’s immediate task is to enable the feed-in tariff mechanism and other renewable energy initiatives such as biomass, hydro and solar energy to be implemented in Sabah and Sarawak.
"The FiT mechanism governed by the Renewable Energy Act 2011 operated entirely within a legal framework . . . I am confident he will be able to spearhead a robust growth of the renewable energy sector in the country,” Ongkili said.
Yee succeeded Tan Sri Dr Fong Chan Onn who led the agency for two years since its inception.
Yee graduated with a medical and law degree from the University of Wales, United Kingdom and practiced law here before turning to politics.
SEDA Malaysia was formed under the Sustainable Energy Development Authority (SEDA) Act 2011. Its key roles are to administer and monitor the FiT mechanism, promote sustainable energy and advise the Energy, Green Technology and Water Minister on policy matters with regard to sustainable energy.
