Macau consumes 18% more electricity in Q3

Macau's electricity consumption reached 1.198 billion kWh in the third quarter of 2011, according to the city's Statistics and Census Service.

This represents an increase of 18 percent over the previous quarter.

Electricity consumption by households surged by 34.9 percent quarter-to-quarter to 269 million kWh, and that by the business sector increased by 13.4 percent to 873 million kWh, the figures indicated.

Local generation of electricity reached 255 million kWh in the period, up 12.3 percent quarter-to-quarter, while the imports of electricity increased by 22.7 percent to 1.021 billion kWh.

For the first three quarters of 2011, imports and consumption of electricity reached 2.330 billion kWh and 2.949 billion kWh, increasing by 6.7 percent and 4.7 percent respectively year-on-year, according to the DSEC.
