Indian president assures safety of nuclear power plants
Indian President Pranab Mukherjee tried to quell apprehensions rising on the safety of the nuclear power plants.
The President asserted that the government has conducted a thorough internal review of all safety systems of nuclear power plants during a budget session in Parliament.
He said that the government is working with International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to address all the nuclear safety issues that have engulfed the nuclear power sector.
Mukherjee added that a bill to set up a Nuclear Safety Regulatory Authority has been introduced in Parliament.
Furthermore, he announced that the two units of the upcoming Kudankulam nuclear power plant, established with Russian collaboration, will be commissioned this year.
