India centralizes offshore wind power development
Establishes the National Offshore Wind Energy Authority.
NOWA will be under the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy and will be the key agency for Indian offshore wind projects. It will carry out resource assessment and surveys in India’s exclusive economic zones.
It will also enter into contracts with project developers for the development of offshore wind energy project in territorial waters. NOWA will be the single window agency and will coordinate with concerned ministries/departments for necessary clearances.
NOWA, however, will only act as a facilitator for issuing clearances. Applications for clearances will be dealt in entirety by the concerned ministry or department.
