TEPCO cuts FY 2020 power demand projection by 7% on energy-saving
TEPCO lowered its power demand projection for fiscal 2020 by 7 percent from the estimates before the March 2011 nuclear crisis.
This reflects widespread energy-saving efforts and increased competition with its rivals, internal company documents showed Wednesday.
TEPCO, which operates the disaster-struck Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant, projected its electric power sales will reach 300.3 billion kilowatt hours in fiscal 2020, down 22.7 billion kwh from the earlier forecast, according to the papers made available to Kyodo News.
Of the decline, 3.3 billion kwh is attributed to an economic downturn in Japan following the March disaster and to declines in populations, and 2.6 billion kwh to the loss of clients to other power producers and suppliers due to the expected acceleration in competition from fiscal 2015.
