Bangladesh paper to be presented in Rio renewable energy conference
The Bangladesh Power Division will place a country paper on renewable energy’s needs and prospects in the country at the UN Conference on Sustainable Development.
The Power Division prepared the country paper on renewable energy in response to the call of the UN Secretary General’s Sustainable Energy for All program.
To be held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil on June 20-22, the conference entitled ‘Rio+20 UN Sustainable Development Conference’ is a 20-year follow-up to UN’s 1992
Conference on Environment and Development that was held in the same city.
This year’s conference has set two themes - green economy for poverty eradication and institutional framework for sustainable development with having three objectives:
securing renewed political commitment, assessing the progress and addressing new and emerging challenges for sustainable development.
However, the most-affected countries by climate change like Bangladesh will pursue the developing nations to allocate more funds for different sectors of sustainable
development, including environment and renewable energy.
A delegation from Bangladesh is likely to join the conference under the leadership of the Ministry of Forest and Environment. Officials of other different ministries, including the Power Division, will be included in the delegation.
