Albay spared from blackouts
The customers of Albay Electric Cooperative in the Bicol region can heave a sigh of relief because they can be temporarily spared from blackout.
This follows the decision of the Philippine Electricity Market Corporation to reverse an earlier decision to disconnect the power utility from the grid.
On PEMC’s request, the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines was supposedly scheduled to effect the disconnection of the electric cooperative last February 10, until the process was stopped last-minute.
PEMC previously issued a statement that due to the US$22.4 million unsettled obligations of the electric cooperative with the WESM and for failure to replenish its prudential guarantee requirements, the market operator was constrained to disconnect ALECO from the grid.
