Trans-Asia plans 135 MW plant in south Philippines

A 135 MW coal-fired plant.

This is what Trans-Asia Oil and Energy Development Corporation of the Phinma Group has in store for Northern Mindanao.

It is firming up plans for the construction of a said plant that goes on stream around 2016.

According to Trans-Asia president Francisco L. Viray this is one of the three projects they are currently studying as part of their generation portfolio shoring up from 2015 onwards.

“It (Mindanao project) is still at very preliminary stage of project planning,” he stressed.

The site is still being explored, but it will likely be close to the Cagayan de Oro area.

The other two projects in the company’s blueprint will be the expansion of its 135-MW coal-fired project in Calaca, Batangas, a joint venture with Ayala group under their corporate vehicle South Luzon Thermal Energy Corporation; and the 20-MW expansion of the Maibarara geothermal project in Batangas.

In the geothermal facility, the company has 25-percent equity in the partnership corporate vehicle majority owned by PetroGreen Energy Corporation. The other minority partner is Philippine National Oil Company-Renewables Corporation.
