Thailand and China to build wind farms in Myanmar

Now carrying-out feasibility studies.

Thailand's Gunkul Engineering Public Company and China's Three Gorges Company are now conducting the studies after reaching an agreement with the government. Myanmar currently provides electricity to only 30% of its population according to the Ministry of Electric Power.

The biggest hindrance for foreign investment to Myanmar is the lack of an uninterrupted power supply. Gunkul Engineering is studying sites in Tanintharyi Region, Mon State, Kayin State and Shan State. It will then build wind farms with a total capacity of 2930 MW.

Three Gorges is undertaking its feasibility study in Chin State, Rakhine State, Yangon and Ayeyarwady regions prior to building wind farms that can produce 1,102 MW.
