Synera bags development capacity for Taiwan’s Formosa 6 wind project

This has a maximum capacity of 1 GW.

Synera Renewable Energy (SRE) has announced that its Formosa 6 Offshore Wind Project has been awarded 800 megawatts (MW) of development capacity by Taiwan’s Ministry of Economic Affairs.

In a statement, SRE said this was awarded in the second round of auctions for Phase 3 Zonal Development of Offshore Wind.

Formosa 6 will be situated approximately 35 kilometres off the coast of Xianxi Township, Changhua County and has a maximum potential capacity of 1 gigawatts.

Based on the allocated capacity of 800MW, the project can install up to 57 wind turbines, each with a capacity of 14MW. This can power about 860,000 households once operational and connected to the grid.

“We are determined to give our best efforts to every project, including Formosa 4, which won capacity in the previous auction, and the newly launched Formosa 6,” SRE chairperson Lucas Lin said.
