SMC Global Power eyes 300MW coal plant in Visayas region
The energy department gave it a go-ahead for a grid impact study.
San Miguel Corporation's power unit SMC Global Power Holdings is eyeing a 300MW coal plant in Negros Occidental, a province in the Visayas Region.
The Philippine Department of Energy (DOE) approved its proposed grid impact study (GIS) of a 300MW circulating fluidized bed (CFB) coal-fired power plant in Negros Occidental. A clearance was issued on 1 August 2018.
The plant joins 11 other projects that were given the heads up for a GIS in August.
Other companies that were granted the GIS clearance include Solar Philippines for projects with a total capacity of 4,550MW; Sunray Power for a 100MW solar project in the Tarlac province; and Astronergy Development Gensan for a 24.96MW solar power plant.
The DOE did not disclose other details.
