Shell mulls over venturing into renewable energy in the Philippines

It's currently on the look-out for opportunities.

Oil & gas company Shell reveals that it is currently scouting for opportunities in the Philippine renewable energy sector. Country chairman Cesar Romero was quoted in a report saying, "We are scouting for RE, in general. We’re prepared to use a number of platforms depending on what maybe commercially viable opportunity. Common start is solar but then you can explore various combinations―solar, gas, hydro, usually very location-dependent."

The company currently owns the second largest oil refinery in Batangas and also operates the Malampaya deep water to gas project in Palawan.

Romero said that Shell Global has just formed a new organisation called New Energy that could look further into the plans for renewable energy business.
