ReNew switches on 1st interstate transmission project

The Koppal Transmission Scheme will be completed by June 2024.

India-based ReNew has started its first interstate transmission project, the Koppal Transmission Scheme, that will support the transmission of around 1,500 megawatts (MW) of renewable energy in the Koppal area of Karnataka state.

In a statement, ReNew said the project under the government’s Interstate Transmission Scheme included the construction of a new 400/220 kilovolt (kV) sub-station with 276 circuit kilometres of 400 kV direct current quad moose transmission line along with the 400 kV GIS Bays at the Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd Narendra New Substation.

The remaining transmission for the 3,500 MW transmission project will be completed by June 2024.

Following the development, ReNew entered a second joint investment with the Norwegian Government’s Investment Fund for developing countries, Norfund, and Norway’s largest pension firm KLP, through their joint firm KNI India NS, investing around $9m for the second transmission in Karnataka in Gadag district.

The Norwegian firms will acquire a 49% stake in the second project.

ReNew won three transmission projects in the state under the ISTS to support the transmission of 5 gigawatts of wind and solar power potential in Karnataka.
