Philippine transmission lines to get upgraded
NGCP will spend more than P1.1 billion will be allocated to upgrade its Kalayaan-Bay 230-kiloVolt transmission line in South Luzon.
The firm is also allocating P515 million to increase the capacity of its substations in Batangas and Laguna as part of its Luzon Substation Expansion III project.
“Kalayaan-Bay line is an important corridor that provides operational flexibility during maintenance of other transmission lines. It also complements the Binan-Muntinlupa Upgrading Project by strengthening this alternate corridor for the generated power coming from the natural gas plants and the Mak-Ban Geothermal Power Plant,” NGCP said.
The upgrading of Kalayaan-Bay transmission line will include the installation of four 795 MCM aluminum steel-reinforced conductors and putting up of additional eighteen 230-KV power circuit breakers. It is expected to be finished by the first quarter of next year.
NGCP said that two units of 300-megavolt ampere tranformers will replace the two existing 100-MVA transformers in the Batangas substation while one unit of a 100-MVA transformer will also be installed at the Bay substation in Laguna.
According to the country’s system operator of the power grid, the capacity increase is aimed at accommodating the increasing requirements of bulk power customers in South Luzon and in maintaining the provision for N-1 contingency of connected power clients.
