Philippine government sees end to power crisis in Mindanao
Some 800 MW of additional to come on stream by 2017.
Energy Secretary Carlos Jericho Petilla said Mindanao will eventually have an oversupply. He said Mindanao will have an additional capacity of at least 800 MW by 2017 because of four upcoming power plant construction projects.
He revealed that the Aboitiz Group will build a 300 MW plant in Davao while Alsons Consolidated Resources will build a 200 MW plant, also in Mindanao.
FDC Utilities Inc. through its subsidiary, FDC Misamis Power Corporation, will build a 270 MW plant in Misamis, also by 2016. San Miguel Global Holdings Corporation is also set to build a 600 MW coal-fired power plant in Davao.
“In two years’ time we will have stable power. We’re trying to make sure plants that will come online about 800 MW by 2017,” Petilla said.
