Mitsubishi to build solar power plant in Fukushima

Plant to begin operating in mid-2014.

Mitsubishi Corporation’s new solar power plant will be located in Iwaki City in Fukushima. The largest of its kind in the Tohoku region, the plant has a generating capacity of 12 megawatts.

Mitsubishi will simultaneously develop a 6 MW solar project at the site of Onahama Petroleum Co., Ltd, a joint venture between MC and Tepco in Iwaki. The two projects will comprise18 MW of solar power generation at Onahama.

The project forms part of Mitsubishi's overall strategic plan to develop its renewable energy business.

Mitsubishi is developing the project with support from Nippon Kasei and with the cooperation of the Fukushima Prefecture and Iwaki City governments.
