Malaysian firm undertakes China-funded Vietnam power plant construction
Malaysian firm Janakuasa Sdn Bhd expects to complete a US$1.5 billion power station in Vietnam by 2014.
Its executive chairman, Tan Sri Dr Abdul Hamid Pawanteh, said the project, known as 'Duyen Hai 2', would be built in Tra Vinh district, south Vietnam and would be funded by a government-linked company of China.
"We received a gurantee to pay US$1.59 billion from Huadian Engineering Co Ltd, China to undertake the project," he stated.
He said Janakuasa would contribute to the proposed education fund to thank the Vietnamese government for awarding the project.
"We will contribute US$1 million a year for the fund to build schools in rural areas," he said.
