JRE’s 80MW solar power plants go online

It can meet the yearly demand of around 21,980 average households.

Japan Renewable Energy Corporation (JRE)  and SMFL MIRAI Partners Co., started the commercial operations of the 80-megawatt JRE Yamato Takamori 1 and 2 Solar Power Plant.

In a statement, JRE said the two plants, which are the largest power generation facility it operated, can supply power to around 21,980 average households and reduce carbon dioxide emission by around 35,280 tonnes annually.

The total planned annual generation for each plant, both located in Yamato-cho, Kamimashiki-gun, Kumamoto, is around 49.7 million kilowatt-hours, with the electricity to be bought by Kyushu Electric Power Transmission and Distribution Co., Inc.

JRE and SMFL MIRAI Partners entered into a joint investment project agreement for large-scale solar power plants under construction in Kumamoto and Kagoshima prefecture in February 2020. 

Aside from the two power plants, the 62.5MW JRE Aso Takamori Solar Power Plant started operation in May 2022, whilst the 54MW JRE Satsuma Solar Power Plant is expected to start in January 2023.
