Jinko Power bags 300MW solar project in Saudi Arabia

The Ministry of Energy of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has awarded Jinko Power Technology Co. Ltd. the Saad 300-megawatt peak (MWp) solar photovoltaic project in Riyadh.

Electricity from the project will be acquired by the Saudi Power Procurement Company (SPPC) under a 25-year power purchase agreement. Its construction is expected to last until 2023.

“We are pleased with the award of Saad 300MW Project from theKingdom of Saudi Arabia,” Xiande Li, Chairman of Jinko Power, said.

He added the project positions Jinko Power strategically in one of the world’s largest and fastest growing markets in renewable.

According to Jinko, the plant will use bifacial solar panels that will receivesolar irradiation on both the front and backside of the panels. This will increase energy generationefficiency of the plant.

The plant is expected to reduceRiyadh'scarbonemissions by more than 0.5 million metric tonnes per year. This is comparable to removing approximately 100,000 cars from the road.

HRH Minister of Energy, PrinceAbdulaziz bin Salman, for his part, said the project is a milestone in achieving targets under the National Renewable Energy Program/

“They also are practical steps towards achieving a number of strategic Saudi Vision 2030 goals, for the energy ecosystem in general and for the electricity sector in particular,” Salman also said.
