Japan's JFE to study Myanmar waste power project

JFE Engineering Corp. will conduct a feasibility study on an urban waste power generation project in Yangon.

The company, which has been commissioned by Japan's Environment Ministry, will undertake the work aimed at combating environmental pollution and developing eco-friendly power generation methods in Yangon with an eye toward securing related business in the promising Myanmar market.

Under the project, JFE will work out ways to produce electricity using heat generated during waste incineration and from biogas.

Yangon generates 1,600 tons a day of urban waste. The city's waste is currently dumped in landfills without being treated.
