Japanese, Korean firms get Vietnamese thermal power plant project

Toshiba Corp., Sojitz Corp. and Daelim Industrial will jointly build a thermal power plant in the northeastern province of Thai Binh.

 

The three groups have have jointly landed a $830 million Vietnamese order for the project.

Under the engineering, procurement and supply contract with an arm of the government-backed Vietnam Oil and Gas Group known as Petrovietnam,

Toshiba will supply two steam turbine generators via Tokyo-based trading house Sojitz to the power plant with a planned combined capacity of 1,200 megawatts, they said.

South Korea's Daelim will handle overall plant engineering, procure boiler and auxiliary equipment and control the construction schedule of the project run by the Petrovietnam arm, Petrovietnam Construction Joint Stock Corp., the Japanese companies said.

The plant will start generating electricity in 2015 to help satisfy Vietnam's power demand, which is expanding at an annual average of 16 percent, they added.
