Greenko, John Cockerill to develop India’s Green Ammonia plant

The project is expected to be commissioned by 2024.

Greenko Group signed an agreement with John Cockerill which will supply 28 units of 5-megawatt (MW) alkaline electrolysers that will be used for the ammonia plant in Una, Himachal Pradesh.

In a joint statement, they said that the alkaline electrolyser units, which will be delivered in March 2024, will allow hydrogen production of 140MW. It also has the highest levels of purity at 99.999%.

The parties said the 300-metric-tonnes-per-day plant, which is expected to start operations by June 2024, is being developed by Greenko Group’s subsidiary Greenko ZeroC, and John Cockerill.

It will be the largest green ammonia plant in the country to date.

The use of electrolysers, along with Greenko’s lowest-cost round-the-clock renewable energy platforms, will enable the company to achieve the lowest levelised cost of hydrogen globally.
