Filinvest to put up 405MW coal-fired plant in Mindanao

Filinvest is gearing up for the pre-construction phases of a 405-MW coal-fired plant in Misamis Oriental.

FDC Utilities Inc. of the Filinvest Group has concluded a “public scoping” for the facility. It will comprise of three generating units with 135-MW capacity each.

Capital outlay for the project is perceived to range from $600 million to $800 million.

FDC has noted that the proposed site of PHIVIDEC Industrial Estate in Misamis Oriental was chosen because the Macajalar Bay’s sea bed/depth is suitable for delivery of fuel and as a source of plant-circulating cooling water.

The facility, which will be equipped with a circulating fluidized bed (CFB) technology, is targeted for commercial commissioning in 2016.

The FDC plant will take its connection point into new Villanueva substation of the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP), which is less than 5.0 kilometers of the proposed switchyard of the power plant.

It was similarly specified that a 5.0-kilometer 138 kilovolt (kV) “will be installed to connect the proposed power plant to the substation.

The Misamis Oriental coal project will serve as Filinvest group’s re-entry venture into power generation.
