Delta wind power centre to be completed by 2015
The 5000MW Mekong Delta Wind Power Centre in Bac Lieu city is set to be completed by 2015.
The project is expected to help ensure a sufficient electricity supply for the Mekong Delta, as well as change the economic structure of the area, promote investment in industrial projects and reduce the impact of climate change.
The centre will be built in Vinh Trach Dong commune and will also have offices in Tra Vinh province’s Duyen Hai district and Soc Trang province’s Vinh Chau district.
The first wind power in Mekong Delta is located in Bien Dong A hamlet of Vinh Trach Dong commune in Bac Lieu City of Bac Lieu province is slated for 2012, will have the capacity of 99.2 MW. The investor of the power plant is Cong Ly Trade and Tourism Company, a 100 percent Vietnamese owned company, which injects 4500 billion dong in the project.
Last October, the Vietnam Development Bank signed an agreement to receive a loan of 1 billion USD from the US Eximbank to fund the project.
In co-operation with the Mekong Delta provinces of Bac Lieu, Tra Vinh and Soc Trang, VDB and Cong Ly Ltd Co, the project’s investors, had conducted initial investigations to develop the specific plans.
