Construction of Lai Chau hydropower gets go signal
Electricity of Vietnam will start the construction of Lai Chau hydropower project at the end of December 2010.
A preliminary investment capital of about US$1.6 billion has been allocated for the project.
According to representatives of Electricity of Vietnam or EVN, after surveying the works of the project in early November, Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai has officially approved the launch time of the last hydroelectric project in the ladder planning on Da River in late December. EVN is currently considering to set a specific date and time to issue the official order.
Lai Chau hydropower plant will be built in Nam Hang commune, Muong Te district, Lai Chau, with the estimated total investment of more than VND32,000 billion, will have three units with the total capacity of 1200 MW and the average power for many years of 4.67 billion kWh.
Once completed, the plant will connect to the national electricity system and supply 500 kV of electricity to PiToong station; 110 kV of electricity to Tuan Giao double circuit - Lai Chau hydropower. Unit 1 of the plant is expected to be put into operation in 2016 and the project to be completed in 2017.
