Conergy to build 21MW Thai solar parks
Enough energy for 14,000 households.
This is the capacity of the solar parks that Thai Solar Energy Co Ltd has tapped Conergy to build.
Conergy will supply the components and provide the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction services for the combined 21MW solar park on two sites in Thailand. These are in Suphan Buri Province and in Kanchanaburi Province.
The solar parks, covering nearly 500,000 combined square meters, will provide Construction and commissioning of the parks will be completed in February 2013. Together, the parks will reduce CO2 emissions by 15,700 metric tons per year, a Conergy public relations officer said.
Conergy expressed confidence that development of these solar parks will strenghten Thailand's position as the leading solar nation in Southeast Asia.
Thai Solar Energy currently operates one solar thermal park- also in Kanchanaburi Province. Collectively, these two new photovoltaic parks will generate over 29,500 MWh of clean energy per year.
The combined 21MW solar parks represent the fifth and sixth solar park Conergy has undertaken in Thailand and represents the continued growth of the company's pipeline of solar park projects in Southeast Asia.
Executives at Conergy and Thai Solar Energy Co. Ltd. agree that favorable government policy coupled with powerful levels of sunlight, has positioned Thailand as a solar leader.
"The Thai government wants to meet one quarter of the country's energy requirements using renewable energy sources by the year 2022. This is providing a baseline of support to the development of a solar energy market in Thailand," stated Alexander Lenz, President Asia & Middle East for Conergy.
"The country currently still imports around half of the national energy needs at high costs. Each new solar installation contributes to the gradual reduction of both dependence on energy imports and their costs for the government," added Lenz.
