Australia seeks feedback on hydrogen initiatives

The Australian government is calling for stakeholder feedback for the Hydrogen Headstart and National Hydrogen Strategy Review programmes as it aims to be a global leader in the sector.

In a statement, the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water said that for the (A$2b) Hydrogen Headstart programme, it is looking for comments from stakeholders in the competitive process for Australian-based large-scale projects to produce renewables.

The Headstart, which was designed with the Australian Renewable Energy Agency, aims to accelerate the hydrogen industry development and help the country connect with new hydrogen supply chains.

Meanwhile, for the review of the National Hydrogen Strategy, the government will focus on the role of hydrogen technology in supporting Australia to achieve its net-zero emissions target by 2050 and cut greenhouse gas emissions by 43% below 2005 levels by 2030.

The deadline for feedback submission for Hydrogen Headstart ends on 3 August, whilst the National Hydrogen Strategy Review closes on 18 August.
