Areva to boost Aussie power station by 44MW

Areva will construct a $110.17 million solar thermal addition to CS Energy's coal-fired Kogan Creek power station.

The addition of the solar energy to the Queensland, Austrtalia power station will boost the production of the plant by 44MW in peak solar conditions from the current 750MW.

The plant is expected to avoid the production of 35,600t of greenhouse gas emissions every year.

The construction of the solar addition is backed by the State Government of Queensland and the federal governments.

Work at the thermal plant will begin this year while commercial operations are slated to commence by 2013.
