Work on Bangladesh's Rooppur nuclear plant to start in June
Bangladesh is set to implement the construction of Rooppur nuclear power plant by June.
The Russian Government has agreed to finance 90 percent cost as soft loan to implement pre-construction phase of the project.
"All the preparatory works to implement the project is going on in full swing and the first phase of the project's construction is expected to begin by June this year," Yeafesh Osman, State Minister for Science and Technology told The New Nation yesterday.
He said that conducting various tests, preparing design and infrastructure and providing training to local experts would be the key areas to be covered at the first phase of the project.
"An expert team from Russia would develop the design of the plant and also provide training among the local people to develop human resource for operating the plant smoothly," Osman further added.
The team will also conduct feasibility study, choose construction sites and assess actual condition of the existing project site in Ishwardi.
Bangladesh and Russi will sign a final deal in this connection during the forthcoming visit of Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to Russia.
