OWL launches Oriental OWL Energy KK in Japan
It will zero in on the solar boom.
According to a release, on 2014 May 8, OWL became the first multi-national high end power engineering consultant to enter the Japanese market through its wholly owned subsidiary Oriental OWL Energy KK.
The office will be headed up by Ichiro Kayaba who worked for many with OWL’s Managing Director, Tony Segadelli, on two power projects in Western Australia.
Kayaba-san has expertise in both renewable and fossil fuelled power projects and of course a good knowledge of the Japanese power market.
The Japanese operation will initially focus on the solar boom however this is expected to grow into wind and biomass in the near future. The Japanese government aims to liberalize the power sector completely by 2020 by which time OWL will be firmly established in Japan.
The client focus will initially be on foreign investors into Japan however it will grow over time to assisting Japanese investors overseas, especially the trading houses plus small domestic developers.
"Although OWL is diversifying geographically our service lines will remain fixed in the “Energy Solutions” sector for which we have become a regional leader. Moreover our focus on locally based engineers who understand both the technical issues and the social environment in which they work with support from competitively priced ASEAN based engineers will remain the guiding force behind the OWL story," Segadelli said.
