No objection certificates required for Chittagong power plant

The Bangladesh High Court ordered against the setting up the Anwora Power Plant without obtaining ‘no objection’ certificates.

These should be procured from the Environment Ministry, authorities of Chittagong port and the civil aviation.

“If the three concerned authorities provide no objection certificates, the Anwora Power Plant could be set up considering the current necessity of electricity”, the HC said.

After disposing a writ petition, the HC bench comprising Justice Nayema Haider and Justice Farid Ahmed passed the order.

The government on September 2, 2010 decided to set up a 1300 Mega Watt power plant near the Chittagong sea beach.
