Myanmar to build gas-fired power plant in economic zone
Myanmar and a Japanese consortium will jointly develop a special economic zone in Yangon, which includes a gas-fired power plant.
Mitsubishi Corp, Marubeni Corp and Sumitomo Corp will team up for a 49 percent share in the 2,400-hectare estate in Thilawa.
The governmentof Myanmar will invite private domestic firms to get involved, an industry official said.
"From the Myanmar side, we will set up a public consortium so that the general public can invest there," said Win Aung, chairman of the Union of Myanmar Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry.
Win Aung said the Japanese government would provide financial assistance to support the development of infrastructure for the industrial zone.
