Mitsubishi may undertake Philippine coal-fired plant expansion
Mitsubishi may be tapped to construct the 400-megawatt expansion of the Pagbilao coal-fired plant.
Two other groups, Korean firm Hyundai Engineering & Construction and American engineering firm Black & Veatch, also submitted proposals.
The developers are reportedly leaning towards Mitsubishi Heavy Industries for the engineering, procurement and construction contract of the $700-million power project.
It will expand the plant’s current capacity of 735MW.
“There are negotiations being carried out with MHI,” a source privy to the talks has disclosed.
The joint venture of the Aboitiz Group and TeaM Energy Philippines will be undertaking the project.
The target would be to put on stream the additional capacity so it can be aligned as part of the supply shoring up for the Luzon grid come 2015.
