Kyoto's largest PV plant inaugurated

Kyocera has inaugurated the first of two PV facilities built in a joint venture with SB Energy.

It is the largest PV project in the Kyoto prefecture.

The inauguration was attended by Softbank’s president and CEO Masayoshi Son, which took place on the day the new feed-in tariffs took effect. The second facility will be connected to the grid in September and each of the facilities will generate 2.1MW of energy.

"When it's raining, hydropower would be an appropriate energy source. When it's windy, you can rely on wind power, and geothermal energy can be used at other times," SoftBank’s CEO Masayoshi Son said. "After 40 years of operating a nuclear power plant, there are a lot of problems left over if you shut it down, especially nuclear waste. Thus, over the long run, renewable energy sources are actually the cheapest forms of electricity."
