Koreans introduce waste-to-energy in Philippine province
Project supports recycling business.
South Korean investors plant to build and operate a waste-to-energy plant in the province of Iloilo in the Philippines’ Visayas region. The plant will convert solid waste into 6 MW of energy.
Iloilo City, capital of Iloilo province, generates some 170 metric tons of garbage collected from six public markets, housing subdivisions, downtown business areas, shopping malls, and streets.
The project was proposed by a Korean businessman residing in the city who encouraged South Korean investors to submit a plan for the waste-to-energy plant. The build, operate and transfer plan will be discussed by the Iloilo City Solid Waste Management Council.
The city will own up to 15% of the plant while the Koreans will own 85% to 90%. All rights from the clean development mechanism business will be transferred to the city government.
