Joint venture plans 500-MW plant at Uttar Pradesh

NTPC-SAIL is planning to set up a coal-fired 500 MW plant at Jagdishpur in Uttar Pradesh.

This is part of its plan to add generation capacity at the steel plants of Steel Authority of India Limited or SAIL.

“NSPCL has an ambitious growth plan of adding 2X250 MW units at Bhilai, 1X250 MW at Rourkela and 2X250 MW at Jagdishpur. In addition, there are plans for capacity addition of 4X250 MW units at Bokaro. All these plants are/shall be located in the existing plants of SAIL.” says NTPC-SAIL in its prefeasibility report.

Set up in 2001 as joint venture to operate SAIL’s captive power plants, NSPCL currently operates 814 MW capacity split between four captive power plants at SAIL’s steel plants at Durgapur, Rourkela and Bhilai (two plants).
