India, Bangladesh to inaugurate power interconnection project
Heads of state will lead October 5 launch.
Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Indian President Manmohan Singh will jointly launch the grid interconnection through video-conferencing of the Bharat-Bangladesh Vidyut Sanchalan Kendra at Bheramara, Bangladesh.
The interconnection facilitates an initial power flow of 500 MW into Bangladesh from the Indian electrical grid to address the growing demand for power in Bangladesh.
It includes a 98 km (71 km on Indian side and 27 km on the Bangladeshi side) of a 400 kV double circuit transmission line between power substations at Baharampur in India and Bheramara; a 400 kV switching station at Baharampur; a 500 MW back-to-back High Voltage Direct Current substation (400/230 kV) at Bheramara and associated infrastructure on both sides.
