China on the way to building more solar power stations

Total capacity of new stations will reach 12 GW.

The National Energy Administration has proposed to build more photovoltaic power stations in 2014 than originally planned. The capacity of the new solar power stations will be increased to 12 GW from the previous target of 10 GW.

Decentralized solar power stations such as those installed in private homes, public buildings with account for 8 GW of the new capacity. NEA is now consulting with local authorities on the new proposal.

The State Council, China's cabinet, has put in place measure that boost the weakened PV sector. These include promoting distributed PV projects; eliminating outdated capacity and encouraging industrial restructuring and technological progress.

The State Council said new installed PV power capacity should stay at some 10 GW annually between 2013 and 2015. Total PV capacity should exceed 35 GW by the end of 2015.
