Bangladesh to put up 60-mw wind power plant in beach town

Bangladesh's cabinet committee approved the setting up of a 60 megawatt wind power plant in Cox’s Bazar.

The meeting was chaired by Finance Minister Abul Maal Muhith.

The power plant will be installed by a US- Bangladesh joint venture in the private sector.

The wind power plant will cost of Taka 117-crore and produce electricity in the next 18 years for the beach town.

The project proposal was made by the Power Division to the Cabinet Division in October.

According to the proposal, PH Consulting Inc. USA with its local partner Taylor Engineering will install the plant in Cox’s Bazar in 10 months after the approval.

The finance minister said that the state-owned Power Development Board would purchase electricity from the plant at the rate of 12 cents or taka around 9.87 per unit to meet the demand in Cox’s Bazar.
