Australian firms target Philippine energy projects
Australian companies are exploring opportunities for renewable energy investments in the Philippines.
“We are seeing greater involvement of Australian companies in the Philippines, with major interests in renewable energy,” said Australian Ambassador Bill Tweddell .
The envoy added that keen interests are similarly exhibited in coal-fired power plant developments as well as potential expanded investments of Australian firms in the upstream oil and gas sector.
“There’s interest in coal-fired power projects because 10-percent of your coal imports are from Australia… and for oil and gas, we see that growing, big companies like BHP Billiton and also Nido Petroleum, they are here now,” he stressed.
For renewable energy, the major prospects being eyed are deployment of solar technologies for rooftops as well as for the energization of off-grid areas.
