Alsons to build another power plant in Mindanao
The company sees Toyota as a partner in building its newest plant.
The Mindanao-based Alsons Consolidated Resources Inc. is considering Japan’s Toyota Tsusho Corp., the trading company of the Toyota Group, as an equity partner for a planned US$311 million coal-fired power plant in Zamboanga City.
Luis Ymson Jr., Alsons’ chief financial officer, said Toyota Tsusho, an investor in Alsons, was one of those considered as an equity partner in the project. He described Toyota Tsusho as a valued, trusted and longtime partner in their power ventures.
The San Ramon Power, Inc. plant will be located in San Ramon, Zamboanga City and will be able to generate up to 105 MW of electricity for Zamboanga City and nearby areas. The plant is expected to become operational by 2016.
Toyota Tsusho owns a 25% stake in Alcantara Sarangani Energy Corporation that is building a US$450 million coal-fired power plant in the province of Sarangani.
