Aboitiz's Hedcor to boost hydro capacity by 60MW
Hedcor Inc. will add 60 megawatts to its portfolio of smaller-scale hydropower capacities, according to its president, Rene Ronquillo.
This will form part of the initial batch of their heftier target capacity addition of 250 megawatts by Hedcor, an Aboitiz firm.
“We have 60 megawatts that are ready for implementation,” he said, stressing that such will cover about seven projects.
Of the proposed facilities, three have already been identified by the company, namely the Tudaya, Sabangan and Tamugan hydropower developments; while the rest are still under different stages of approval by the Department of Energy.
The Tudaya project in Davao del Sur has been designed to comprise of two phases for an aggregate capacity of 13.6 megawatts; while the Sabangan project in Mountain Province will be for 13.2MW.
The other project already reaching construction phase is the Tamugan hydropower facility in Davao City, which is targeted coming on stream by 2014. The plant’s capacity had to be scaled down though based on project approvals.
The target is to generate 2.0 billion kilowatt hours by 2020, says Ronquillo.
