Nuclear could account for about 9% of India’s electricity by 2037

The share of nuclear resources in India’s total electricity could reach nearly 9% by 2047, Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh said.
In a statement, the Department of Atomic Energy said this will also help India in achieving its net-zero commitment by 2070.
Nuclear power reactors generated 47,112 million units of electricity in 2021-22 or about 3.15% of the total generated electricity.

Singh said the country’s nuclear power capacity is expected to reach 22,480MW by 2030 from 6,780MW.
Indi aims to have a 20GW capacity of nuclear power generation by 2030, making India the third largest producer of atomic energy globally behind the US and France.
