JERA starts operations of Yokosuka coal-fired power station
The coal-fired power station has a generating capacity of approximately 650 MW.
JERA Co., Inc. (JERA) has commenced the commercial operations of the coal-fired power plant Yokosuka Thermal Power Station Unit 2.
Located in the city of Kurihama over the Kanagawa Prefecture, the Yokosuka coal-fired power station has undergone replacement through the subsidiary JERA Power Yokosuka G.K, and all of the existing units have started commercial operations.
Unit 2 is a high-efficiency coal-fired power station specialising in an ultra-supercritical (USC) power generation system with a generation capacity of an estimated 650 MW, efficient for a stable electricity supply.

JERA has initiated operations of Unit 2 ahead of its original schedule in February 2024, enabling a stable supply for the winter season.
Previously, JERA had begun operations for Unit 1 last June 2023, allowing a 650 MW power output. For both units and the replacement of aging equipment, the Japan-based energy producer is achieving a consistent electricity supply and reduction of carbon emissions.
