Japan approves restart of Ohi nuclear units
Ohi-3 and 4 will resume operation by mid-March 2018.
Enerdata reported that Japan's Fukui Prefecture has approved the restart of Kansai Electric's Ohi-3 and Ohi-4 units, which are now expected to resume operation by mid-March 2018. The two units were given permission to restart in August 2012 but were taken offline again by the Nuclear Regulation Authority (NRA) in September 2013. Kansai Electric submitted its restart plan in September 2013 and the NRA approved it in August 2017.
Both units are pressurized water reactors (PWRs) rated 1,127 MW each and have been shut down in the wake of the 2011 Fukushima nuclear disaster. Out of the 48 Japanese nuclear reactors, only five have met the new regulatory safety standards and have resumed operation.
