EnergyAustralia buys 950MW of gas-fired facilities for $157m
These plants contribute around 9% of Victoria's generation capacity.
The Australian utility EnergyAustralia has acquired two gas-fired power plants in the state of Victoria (Australia) with a combined installed capacity of 950 MW from Ecogen Energy for a total consideration of AUD205m (US$157m). The two power plants comprised in the transaction are the 510 MW Newport power plant (Melbourne) commissioned in 1981 and the 440 MW Jeeralang power station (Latrobe Valley) commissioned between 1977 and 1980. They contribute up to 9% of Victoria's power generation capacity. The transaction is subject to regulatory approvals and is expected to be completed during the second quarter of 2018.
EnergyAustralia has a portfolio of power projects including pumped hydropower developments and permits for an aggregate of 1000 MW of new gas-fired capacity at Tallawarra and Marulan.
