China dominates global wind turbine orders in 2022

The market accounted for 70% of the order capacity during the year.

China dominated the global wind turbine orders in 2022, accounting for 70% of all order capacity, Wood Mackenzie reported.

The global wind turbine order intake reached a record high of 134.6 gigawatts during the year with annual investments estimated at $74.2b.

“We’ve seen incredible activity in China, but its soaring numbers have somewhat masked a slowdown from western OEMs, which have been impacted by supply chain challenges and cost increases,” Luke Lewandowski, Wood Mackenzie Research Director, said.

“This has negatively impacted both new order intake and installation activity outside of China.”

Wood Mackenzie noted the growth in China is driven by the compliance of developers to the 14th 5-year plan.

Outside China, the order intake declined by 15 year-on-year to 41GW, which is around 9GW off the four-year average.
