Australia's renewables agency to shell out $67m for 12 solar projects

The projects are worth US$790m.

The Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA) is providing nearly A$90m (US$67m) of grant funding for twelve solar projects worth A$1,060m (US$790m) in New South Wales (NSW), Queensland and Western Australia, according to Enerdata.

The 12 projects are Origin's 110 MW Darling Downs park, Edify Energy and Wircon's 57.5 MW Whitsunday project, Neoen's 55 MW Parkes, 25 MW Dubbo Solar Hub and 30 MW Griffith solar project, Genex Power's 50 MW Kidston project, Canadian Solar's 15 MW Longreach solar park and 25 MW Oakey solar farm, RATCH's 42.5 MW Collinsville solar park, First Solar's 42.5 MW Manildra project, APA's 20 MW Emu Downs solar park and Goldwind's 20 MW White Rock project.

"The projects will add 492 MW of solar capacity and will triple the installed capacity of large solar power plants (at the end of 2016, Australia had a total of 5.7 GW of installed solar capacity). Works have already begun on 9 of the 12 plants, with work on the remainder to commence imminently. The should be all completed between late 2017 and mid-2018," Enerdata said.
